Choose a structure for
your social enterprise

There a number of legal structures that social enterprises can adopt. Each of the structures has advantages and limitations and it is important for an enterprise to choose the right structure for them. The correct organisational structure relates to 4 fundamental questions:

1. Who are the stakeholders? (those who will have an interest in the organisation including beneficiaries, owners, leaders, shareholders, customers or users,
employees and volunteers, suppliers, community members, political stakeholders and funders)

2. What is the organisation?s main purpose?

3. How will it be owned?

4. How will it be governed?
